2023 exhibition schedule

»Garden Futures: Designing with Nature«
Vitra Design Museum | 25 March 2023 – 03 October 2023
- Gardens reflect identities, dreams, and visions; they are deeply rooted in our culture. If recent years have seen something of a garden revival, however, the focus has been less on romantic idylls than on social justice, climate change, biodiversity – on a sustainable future and a balanced relationship between humankind and nature. The exhibition »Garden Futures« at the Vitra Design Museum will be the first to explore the history and future of garden design within this context.
»Hot Cities: Lessons from Arab Architecture«
Vitra Design Museum Gallery | 29 April – 5 November 2023
- As the effects of climate change make themselves felt, cities need to adapt to the global rise of temperatures. In this context, many researchers turn to the metropoles of the Arab-speaking world to learn how they cope with their region’s harsh climate. The exhibition »Hot Cities« presents urban case studies that provide answers to many questions now raised by climate change.
»Iwan Baan«
Vitra Design Museum | 21 October 2023 – 03 March 2024
- Iwan Baan is one of today’s leading photographers of architecture and urban design. His images document the growth of global megacities and portray buildings by prominent contemporary architects. His observant eye presents architecture not as an abstract ideal, but as the setting of everyday life, an organic part of the urban fabric. The first large retrospective of the Dutch photographer’s work will open at the Vitra Design Museum in autumn 2023.
»Garden House, Tsuyoshi Tane«
Vitra Campus & Vitra Design Museum Gallery | Autumn 2023
- In spring 2023, another architectural highlight will be added to the Vitra Campus when the Garden House designed by architect Tsuyoshi Tane is set up between the Umbrella House and the Oudolf Garden. A viewing platform on the roof offers a fine view of the entire Vitra Campus. In autumn 2023, a special exhibition at the Vitra Design Museum Gallery will present insights into Tsuyoshi Tane’s work and his Vitra Garden House project.
»Colour Rush!« Extended!
Vitra Schaudepot I until 12 May 2024
- The presentation at the Vitra Schaudepot »Colour Rush!« by the Dutch designer Sabine Marcelis is wholly devoted to colour. Following an invitation from the Vitra Design Museum, Sabine Marcelis has transformed the Schaudepot in one simple, sweeping gesture by sorting its roughly four hundred exhibits by colour. The exhibition will be extended until May 2024.
