Plans to Unveil New Space: Villa AM in New York’s West Village in April

The Gallery’s New Concept and Space Prioritizes Design in a Home Context Craftsmanship, and Collaboration as Key Drivers of Quality and Creativity
Opening with a VIP reception on Wednesday, April 23
Public hours on Thursday, April 24, 10am - 6pm
New York, NY (March 26, 2025) – Salon Design, the contemporary design gallery founded in 2018, is excited to announce its relaunch as AM Collective, accompanied by a move to an inspiring new space, Villa AM, located in a 2,600-square-foot townhouse in New York’s West Village with an exhibition entitled Atmospheres. This evolution marks a significant step forward in the gallery’s mission to present exceptional collectible design that blends heritage craft and contemporary practice. Opening to the public by appointment from Thursday, April 24th (with special opening day from 10am - 6pm), Villa AM will launch with a presentation of art and design emblematic of AM Collective’s commitment to heritage craftsmanship and contemporary style.
AM Collective is dedicated to showcasing design at the intersection of tradition and innovation, prioritizing the debut of collections and special pieces rather than focusing on traditional, larger-scale gallery shows. With a focus on supporting and commissioning work from both emerging and established creators, AM Collective highlights the boundaries of material exploration and craftsmanship. The collective works with a range of makers, from leading rug makers in Paris and India, experimental lighting designers across Europe and Australia, and textile innovators in Berlin and the Netherlands. Each work is carefully curated for its intuitive collectibility, resonance, and beauty.
The collective’s approach emphasizes cohesive, salon-style presentations that encourage collaboration and highlight the narrative potential of design, focusing on collection launches, debuting exclusive capsules, collaborations, and special editions. Reflecting a commitment to equity in the design field, approximately 80% of AM Collective’s collaborators and designers identify as female, showcasing the gallery’s dedication to uplifting female makers in contemporary design.
AM Collective is the brainchild of Amanda Pratt, former investment banker turned interior designer and art advisor whose passion lies in supporting under-recognized and under-represented talents. With roots in Boston and a presence in New York since 2022, this relaunch represents a natural evolution of Pratt’s vision for a design business that is collective, generative, and continuously changing.
“Over the past few years, we’ve seen a lot of shifts in the contemporary design world – in how makers make, how collectors collect, and how we live and entertain – especially the United States, where design is starting to take hold in a way it has long been a part of daily life in Europe,” noted Amanda Pratt. “There is a sense of intimacy and the capacity to really feel and interact with design objects that gets lost in a white gallery space. AM Collective is relaunching as a flexible model to enable a deeper level of intimacy and collaboration with our artisans, clients, and friends to create spaces that really evoke a concept at home for our evolving reality.”
Villa AM, opening in April 2025, will serve as the new headquarters and exhibition space for AM Collective. Situated in a charming West Village townhouse, the 2,600-square-foot space includes a back courtyard and is designed to present contemporary design in a domestic setting. This environment allows visitors to experience works as they might appear in a lived-in space, enhancing their appreciation and connection to the pieces.
Villa AM will host a rotating series of programs, including collection debuts, fireside chat conversations, and outdoor sculpture installations. Designed as a hub for creativity and collaboration, the space invites visitors to celebrate makers and delve into the nuances of their practices.
The inaugural program, Atmospheres, at Villa AM will feature:
- Pictalab x Amy Lincoln – AM Collective will launch a collaboration between Italian painted wallcovering studio Pictalab and New York based painter Amy Lincoln, featuring a series of land and sea scapes in otherworldly colors mimicking different times of day and moods. Simultaneously, AM Collective will feature the US debut of Fabula, Pictalab’s new collection inspired by the Bulgari Hotel, blending contemporary aesthetics with heritage design.
- Tapistlar – The US debut of Tapistlar, the company founded by Giovina Carabba Tettamanti working with Colombian artisans to create a blend of heritage craftsmanship and her own background steeped in Abruzzo’s historic textile industry. AM Collective will present new, limited-edition works.
- Phantom Hands – A special collection of classic Chandigarh dining chairs and other pieces, including several U.S. debuts.
- New and recent works by Morii Design, Studio Kaytar, Eugenie Kawabata, Simon Leah, Studio Sana Benzaitar, Naomi Paul, and Ian Love, with innovative collections ranging from lighting to woodworking to textiles.
- Art for the exhibition will be shown in coordination with private dealer Nick Weinberg, founder of NEW Art Services. Weinberg will be incorporating post-war and contemporary secondary market artworks by Willem de Kooning, Adolph Gottlieb, George Condo, Richard Prince, Andy Warhol, Mickalene Thomas, Victoria Gitman, Vivian Springford, Jesse Murry, Sara Anstis, Robert Duran, and Catherine Murphy, among others. Pratt, whose interests lie in emerging artists, has brought together a group of primary works including Meagan Streader and Laura Winn Clark. The curation of the artworks in concert with the design on view and architecture of the space is reflective of an approach to interiors projects shared by Weinberg and Pratt, and a mutual passion for living with art and design.
The interior will be completely shoppable, offering visitors a unique opportunity to acquire works in a setting designed to showcase their functionality and beauty. Further programming for 2025 will be announced in the coming months, inviting design enthusiasts, collectors, and the creative community to visit Villa AM and explore the captivating collections and engaging conversations.
